This teaching pack includes five lessons to teach the class to identify and record the sequence of two digit numbers by the place value of their numerical digits. There are activities for shared, independent and group learning.

This scheme of work for maths is recommended for Year Two in Key Stage One although it could also be easily differentiated for children in other ages and classes to use.

Lesson One : Number Tracks

Lesson Two : Shapes and Digits

Identify and record the place value of digits in different numbers to fifty. The class can use diagrams to record the tens and ones to match the numerals in a range of numbers with two digits.

Lesson Three : Number Frames

Use diagrams to represent numbers to one hundred in words and digits. The class can generate some two digit numbers and then record the tens and ones that can be combined to make each number.

Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and in words. Recognise the place value of each digit in a two digit number.
Learning Outcomes
I can read and write numbers to fifty in words and digits. I can say the tens and ones in a two digit number.

Lesson Four : Words and Digits

Match, compare and order different two digit numbers written in words and digits from smallest to biggest. The class can link words written in each number to the corresponding numerical digits.

Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and in words. Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100.
Learning Outcomes

Lesson Five : Number Lines

record the position of different two digit numbers on different sized scales that extend from zero to one hundred. The class can explain why they have positioned each of the numbers in different places along a number line from different starting and ending numbers.
