This scheme of work for English is recommended for Year Two in Key Stage One although it could also be easily differentiated for children in other ages and classes to use.

Lesson Two : Journey Lists
Practise using commas between items in lists of things needed to complete different journeys. The children can compose postcards to present their lists of items needed for the selected journeys.

Learning how to use both familiar and new punctuation correctly including commas for lists. Being introduced to non-fiction books that are structured in different ways.

Lesson Three : Train Travel
Use the conjunctions and and or to link pairs of sentence clauses about different journeys. The class can identify sentences that explain why or how families use different forms of transport when making journeys.

Learn how to use co-ordination (and, or) when writing sentences. Drawing on what they already know or on background information and vocabulary provided by the teacher.

Lesson Four : Transport Lists
Collect vocabulary lists to describe what happens when making a journey by a specific form of transport. The children can explain how to use the homophones there and they’re when writing sentences about different journeys.
